About Jack Herer
Jack Herer is a strain named after a lifelong cannabis activist whose 1985 book The Emperor Wears No Clothes continues to be an influential resource in the fight for the decriminalization and legalization of cannabis. A dominant Sativa hybrid developed by Sensi Seeds in the 1980s or ’90s, it is a tasty and perennially popular strain. Jack Herer has passed its genetics and part of its name to cross varieties like Jack the Ripper, Jack’s Cleaner and Jack Skellington.
Although the exact genetic formula is a kept secret, everyone believes Jack Herer to be the product of the basic Sativa Haze and a cross from Northern Lights # 5 and Shiva Skunk. Sticky buds have an attractive orange-lemon scent and a taste with just a touch of a little wet pine. The high provides an excellent balance between brain and physical effects, leaving users deeply relaxed but attentive and well versed. Jack Herer’s attractive flavor and full effects have made it enormously popular with recreational and medical cannabis users alike; It has won nine Cannabis Cup titles. The Analytical 360 cannabis lab has measured that Jack Herer flowers have between 15% and 24% THC.
Effects of Jack Herer
This strain acts quickly: users are hit with a strong head current that is noticeably more energizing than disorienting. As time passes, or higher doses are consumed, this initial tingling spreads through the neck and through the extremities, creating a feeling of relaxation without immobilizing. What follows is a high alert and easily suggestible marked by creativity. This is a particularly good strain for brainstorming and creative visualization. The sense of ease and creativity also makes Jack Herer great for facilitating conversation in social settings. Because it provides double relaxation and buzzing for the mind and body, Jack Herer generally leaves users feeling stimulated but in lucid control of their actions.
This smooth high is good for treating low-grade stress, anxiety, and depression. Users have also described relief from migraines. Although not high in CBD, this strain can also be beneficial for chronic aches and pains. It is not recommended for those who suffer from insomnia, since stimulation of thought and mood can actually keep users awake. More than a day treatment than a night medication, this could be considered an ideal strain to “wake up and bake”.
More About this Strain
Jack Herer seeds are available from the creator of the Sensi strain; alternatively, potential growers can obtain mature clippings of healthy plants to grow clones. Sensi describes four distinct Jack Herer phenotypes: two that are lean Indica and two that are predominantly Sativa. Outdoor growers should plant in Mediterranean climates that maintain daily temperatures between 72 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Because plants can reach heights of 8 feet in certain conditions. So indoor growers should make sure to reduce the height of this strain by crowding and blooming shortly after the plants take root. Jack Herer generally performs below average. It blooms in about 10 relatively long weeks when grown indoors and is ready for harvest in mid to late October.
Jack Herer’s rounded top makes it a great strain for cannabis newcomers. It is exceptionally social in its ability to facilitate conversation while allowing users to maintain an appearance of conscience. The rich floral scent is sure to attract attention. Which can alternatively be a start of conversation or a way to attract undue attention. Jack Herer is also a solid choice for solo use as it allows for creative thinking and a feeling of euphoria.
